ABOUT US
A History of Galleher Industries
Galleher Industries didn’t become the supplier of choice for truck and trailer manufacturing giants overnight. Over the course of nearly 90 years, we’ve built up a reputation based on trust, reliability, and forging long-term relationships with clients.
Our business evolved from a pointed focus on lumber and hardwood flooring into the one-stop-shop for lumber, steel, and more that it is today. With manufacturing and distribution facilities in both California and Texas, we’re able to meet the needs of our truck and trailer partners across western and central U.S. seamlessly.
We’re a mainstay of the industry — no risks and no uncertainty. Providing customers with an extensive, always in-stock inventory is at the core of our business. We never run out, because we invest millions of dollars into stocking our raw material inventory. Here’s a look back at how we got where we are today:
1937: Founded by Burt Galleher
Galleher Industries began with Burt Galleher back in 1937. Prior to WWII, Galleher saw a great opportunity in the suburban housing market of Los Angeles: hardwood flooring. The housing market was expanding and in need of hardwood, the primary flooring product of the day. When soldiers came back after the war, business started to boom.
As times changed, so did flooring preferences. In the 1960s, the popularity of wood flooring declined, due to the new and inexpensive mass-produced carpeting and easy-care residential vinyl tiles. So, Galleher decided to pivot and began selling hardwood lumber and wood flooring for truck bodies and trailers.
1980: The Horner Flooring Company Buys Galleher
Nearly a decade after Burt Galleher passed away, his family sold the company to The Horner Flooring Company, a long-time supplier in Dollar Bay, Michigan. The Horner Flooring Company’s original owner, Kenneth Hamar, bought the company in 1957, and his two sons, John and Edward, were currently running it. Seeing that wood flooring was returning to popularity, the new owners explored ways to grow the business. They became more aggressive in their market and added new product lines, so they saw their sales begin to increase.
In 1985, the company split into two segments: flooring and truck and trailer flooring. The truck and trailer segment was sold to a 30-year veteran of Galleher, Jim Beck. Beck continued to build the company and increase sales in the truck and trailer segment until his passing in 1994. Beck’s wife ran the company for the next four years.
1998: David Bowden,
Takes the Wheel
David Bowden (Jim Beck’s nephew) bought the company in 1998. Since Bowden had owned several successful businesses, in different industries, he saw a unique growth potential in Galleher and the truck and trailer industry. He used expertise gleaned from his previous businesses to forge vital new relationships, expand Galleher’s customer base, and develop a new business model in the industry.
Until this point, Galleher had only sold lumber products, but Bowden knew that adding the steel to the mix would cause significant growth. It would also create measurable value for both the company as well as its customers.
1999: Bowden Acquires Pomona Valley Steel
That potential drove David Bowden to acquire Pomona Valley Steel in 1999. Now he could also manufacture and distribute steel parts for trucks and trailers. After a few years, the two companies merged under the name Transportation Parts Management Corp DBA Galleher Lumber & Steel.
In the 20 years since the merger, Galleher Industries has significantly increased its manufacturing capabilities and efficiency. In turn, this enabled the company to increase the amount of products it offers. That’s how it became the one-stop truck parts shop Bowden envisioned years ago.
In 2020, Galleher expanded into a new location in Terrell, Texas. This increased the distribution footprint even further across the United States. Today, Galleher Industries serves more than 300 customers, both large and small, and will always be looking at new ways to better serve its customers.
